The main goal of the CROSS project, financed through the LIFE program, is to create a “One-Stop-Shop” service center that will serve as support for the renovation and improvement of building management in Krapina-Zagorje County, Zagreb County, Karlovac County, and the City of Zagreb. In addition, the project has the option of expanding to other local and regional self-government units in the Republic of Croatia after the completion of the project in the so-called pilot areas, and therefore has the role of a kind of “lighthouse”.

The specific goals and activities of the CROSS project include support for the renovation of public sector buildings, through the establishment of expert support for local and regional self-government units, the promotion of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, and the principles of sustainable construction, the development of financial models and the inclusion of a wider range of stakeholders in the management and renovation of the fund. building. CROSS is part of a comprehensive approach that will improve building management processes, significantly improve the energy efficiency of public sector buildings, and reduce their energy bills, but also their greenhouse gas emissions. For 100 selected buildings, a detailed plan will be drawn up and feasibility studies will be prepared for comprehensive renovation.

The total budget of the project amounts to more than 1.3 million euros. The project officially started on September 1, 2023, and will last 36 months. This will stimulate 66 million euros of investment in sustainable energy. The project is coordinated by REGEA and brings together several important partners: Krapina-Zagorje County, Karlovac County, Zagreb County, the City of Zagreb, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture at the University of Zagreb, the Association of Cities in the Republic of Croatia, the Croatian Chamber of Economy, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture and FEDARENE – European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and Environment.
